Two hundred and sixty-three. That is where RCB’s highest scores in IPL history begin, set by one man in 2013 in an innings that still has no equal.

Between 2013 and 2025, ten totals of 221 and above carry RCB’s name. Eight ended in wins. Two did not. What separates them is not always the runs scored. Sometimes the other side simply bats better.

Ten totals. Eight wins, two heartbreaks, and a ground that kept producing more than anyone could handle.

1. 263/5 vs Pune Warriors, Bengaluru, 23 April 2013

Nobody in IPL history has scored 175 in an innings. Only Gayle has come close, and this was the day he did it.

Pune Warriors elected to field first at Chinnaswamy and gave Gayle the strike from ball one. He reached fifty in 17 balls, a hundred in 30, and 150 in 53.

By the time the innings ended, he was unbeaten on 175 off 66 deliveries, having struck 13 fours and 17 sixes at a strike rate of 265.15. Tillakaratne Dilshan contributed 33 off 36 at the other end, and the first-wicket stand of 167 was Gayle’s innings from start to finish.

AB de Villiers arrived with barely two overs left and added 31 off just 8 balls at a strike rate of 387.50. By then, the total was already unreachable for anyone.

No venue in the IPL punishes bad bowling quite like Chinnaswamy, and Pune’s attack found that out across every over. Mitchell Marsh was the most expensive, conceding 56 in 3 overs. Ali Murtaza went for 45 in 2. Aaron Finch, bowling just one over, conceded 29.

Pune’s reply was 133/9. RCB won by 130 runs.

2. 262/7 vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, Bengaluru, 15 April 2024

RCB scored 262 at Chinnaswamy and still lost. That single sentence tells you everything about what SRH brought to this match.

SRH had posted 287/3 batting first. Travis Head made 102 off 41 with 9 fours and 8 sixes. Heinrich Klaasen added 67 off 31.

Abdul Samad struck 37 off 10 deliveries at a strike rate of 370. Chasing 288 was a different kind of challenge, but RCB’s start was emphatic. Their powerplay produced 79 without loss. Kohli scored 42 off 20, and du Plessis reached his fifty in 23 balls before finishing with 62 off 28.

Then five wickets fell for 42 runs between overs 6 and 10. From 80/0, RCB collapsed to 122/5. Dinesh Karthik steadied what was left, scoring 83 off 35 at a strike rate of 237.14 with his fifty coming in 23 balls.

Anuj Rawat added 25 off 14 at the end. It was not enough. RCB finished at 262/7 and fell 25 runs short. It remains one of the highest losing totals in IPL history.

3. 248/3 vs Gujarat Lions, Bengaluru, 14 May 2016

Two of the cleanest ball-strikers this format has produced, batting together, at Chinnaswamy. Gujarat Lions had no answer for either of them.

Gayle fell early for 6 off 13 balls. It turned out not to matter. Kohli and de Villiers built a second-wicket partnership of 229 runs that lasted until the penultimate ball of the innings.

Kohli scored 109 off 55, reaching his fifty in 39 balls and his hundred in 53, hitting 5 fours and 8 sixes. De Villiers was operating at a different level entirely. He finished on 129 off 52 with 10 fours and 12 sixes at a strike rate of 248.07. His fifty came in 25 balls, his hundred in 43.

Shivil Kaushik conceded 50 in 3 overs. Dwayne Bravo went for 46 in 3. There was no point in the innings where either Kohli or de Villiers appeared to be at risk.

Gujarat Lions were bowled out for 104 in 18.4 overs. RCB won by 144 runs.

4. 241/7 vs Punjab Kings, Dharamsala, 9 May 2024

Dharamsala is not Chinnaswamy. The outfield is different, the dimensions vary, and RCB were wobbling at 43/2 inside the powerplay after losing du Plessis and Jacks cheaply. Then Kohli and Patidar took over.

Their third-wicket partnership was put on 50 in just 21 balls. Patidar scored 55 off 23 at a strike rate of 239.13, his fifty coming in 21 balls.

Kohli was more measured but relentless, finishing with 92 off 47 as his fifty came in 32 balls. He fell at 211 in the 18th over.

Cameron Green came in and added 46 off 27 in the final overs to push RCB past 240.

Harshal Patel was Punjab’s best bowler, taking 3 wickets. Sam Curran went for 50 in 3 overs. Rahul Chahar conceded 47 in 3.

Punjab Kings were bowled out for 181 in 17 overs. RCB won by 60 runs.

5. 235/1 vs Mumbai Indians, Wankhede, 10 May 2015

Ask any bowler who has defended a total at Wankhede and the answer is usually the same. The outfield is fast, the pitch is true, and once a partnership settles, there is very little you can do.

Kohli and de Villiers settled in the fourth over and did not separate for the rest of the innings.

Gayle fell for 13 in the fourth over. What followed was 215 unbroken runs between the two, spanning all 17 remaining overs.

De Villiers finished unbeaten on 133 off 59 deliveries with 19 fours and 4 sixes at a strike rate of 225.42, his fifty coming in 29 balls and his hundred in 47. Kohli was unbeaten on 82 off 50 with his fifty in 39 balls. The second-wicket stand produced its 50 in 34 balls, its 100 in 58, and its 200 in 98.

Hardik Pandya conceded 51 in 3 overs. Bumrah went for 52 in 4. MI replied with 196/7. RCB won by 39 runs.

6. 230/4 vs Lucknow Super Giants, Lucknow, 27 May 2025

90 for 3 in the 8th over. Patidar and Livingstone both went off consecutive balls. The chase of 228 looked like it was quietly dying. Then Jitesh Sharma walked in and buried that notion entirely.

LSG had posted 227/3, with Rishabh Pant making 118 off 61 at the top and Mitchell Marsh contributing 67 off 37. RCB’s chase had started well enough.

Salt gave them 30 off 19, and Kohli reached his fifty in 27 balls, hitting 10 fours in a 54-run knock off 30 deliveries. When Kohli fell at 123 in the 11th over, the asking rate was climbing.

Mayank Agarwal and Jitesh Sharma changed the shape of the chase entirely. Their fifth-wicket stand brought 50 in 21 balls and 100 in 43. Jitesh finished unbeaten on 85 off 33 with 8 fours and 6 sixes, his fifty coming in 22 balls.

Agarwal was unbeaten on 41 off 23. Will O’Rourke was LSG’s most expensive bowler, conceding 74 in 4 overs.

RCB won with 8 balls remaining.

7. 227/4 vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, Bengaluru, 12 April 2016

Gayle lasted four balls and scored 1. It barely registered on the scorecard. It did not need to.

Kohli and de Villiers took over from the second over and built a second-wicket partnership of 157 runs. De Villiers scored 82 off 42, his fifty coming in 26 balls.

Kohli made 75 off 51, his fifty in 40 balls. When both fell at 183 off consecutive deliveries, Watson arrived and struck 3 sixes in his 19 off 8 balls. Sarfaraz Khan then came to the crease at 183/4 and hit 35 off just 10 deliveries at a strike rate of 350, taking the innings to 227.

Karn Sharma was SRH’s most expensive bowler, conceding 57 in 4 overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar went for 55 in 4.

SRH replied with 182/6. RCB won by 45 runs.

8. 226/3 vs Kings XI Punjab, Bengaluru, 6 May 2015

The powerplay closed at 68 without a wicket. That was already the match.

Gayle and Kohli opened and put on 119 for the first wicket. Gayle reached his fifty in 22 balls and his hundred in 46, finishing with 117 off 57 that included 7 fours and 12 sixes at a strike rate of 205.26. Kohli fell for 32 after the opening stand ended.

9. 221/5 vs Mumbai Indians, Wankhede, 7 April 2025

Wankhede does not hand out wins. RCB scored 221 here and needed every single one of them.

Salt fell for 4 off the second ball. Kohli and Padikkal rebuilt the innings steadily. Kohli scored 67 off 42, his fifty coming in 29 balls.

10. 221 vs Kolkata Knight Riders, Eden Gardens, 21 April 2024

One run. That is what separated this innings from a famous RCB win at Eden Gardens.

KKR had posted 222/6. RCB’s powerplay produced 74/2 with both Kohli and du Plessis falling cheaply. Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar then rebuilt the innings with a third-wicket stand of 100 in 47 balls.

Jack scored 55 off 32 with 4 fours and 5 sixes, his fifty in 29 balls. Patidar made 52 off 23 at a strike rate of 226.08, his fifty in 21 balls. Both fell off consecutive deliveries to Andre Russell in the 12th over, and the innings never recovered its momentum.

Karthik scored 25 off 18 in the lower order. Karn Sharma hit 3 sixes in a 20-ball cameo off 7 deliveries to keep the equation alive at the death.

RCB needed 2 off the final ball and scored 1. Russell was the decisive bowler, taking 3 wickets. Mitchell Starc conceded 55 in 3 overs.

KKR won by 1 run.

Conclusion: RCB’s Highest Scores in IPL History Span 12 Years

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s ten highest totals in IPL history run from 2013 to 2025. Five of the ten were scored at Chinnaswamy, where flat pitches and short boundaries have repeatedly turned good batting into extraordinary innings. Eight of the ten ended in wins.

The two that did not, the 262 against SRH in 2024 and the 221 against KKR at Eden Gardens in the same season, are a reminder that big totals only go so far. Sometimes the other team simply has more.
